The MoU was signed in the presence of esteemed officials from both Friendship and the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES). Friendship founder Runa Khan was present alongside senior Friendship officials, including Muhammed Shameem Reza, Senior Director, Legal & CFO; Md. Nurullah Mamun Chowdhury, Senior Director and CHRO; Dr M. Sakhawat Hosen, Director and Head of Sustainable Economic Development (SED); and Mahbubur Rahman Turza, Deputy Director and Head of Partnership Development.
Professors Dr Md. Hammadur Rahman, Director of BAURES & Team Leader (Principal Investigator) and Dr M. Wakilur Rahman, Co‑Team Leader from the University’s Department of Rural Sociology, Faculty of Agricultural Economics & Rural Sociology, were present on the other side.
Through this MoU, Friendship appointed BAURES to conduct independent evaluations of the various livelihood interventions implemented by Friendship in the climate-vulnerable regions of the country, especially the northern riverine char islands and southern coastal areas of Bangladesh. The impact evaluation research carried out by BAURES will establish credible, evidence-based insights on how Friendship’s activities in the Sustainable Economic Development sector are improving resilience, income, and food security of marginalised communities living in these regions. The research will also inform future programme design and partner engagement.
BAU is a reputed public university established in 1961, known to provide excellent higher education, research, and extension facilities in agricultural sciences. The BAURES system provides administrative support in research management. Project-based research activities carried out by BAU faculty members are directly managed by the system.
