Dans le cadre de la Journée Nationale de l’Arbre à Luxembourg, sous le patronage du Ministère de l’Environnement et avec la participation du Grand-Duc héritier Guillaume, la Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur (naturemwelt.lu) invite tout le monde à planter des arbres ou à financer la plantation d’arbres au Luxembourg ou dans un pays du sud. Cette année, le projet international choisi est celui de plantation d’arbres de mangrove mené par Friendship au Bangladesh.

Le projet de reforestation de la mangrove dans les vasières du delta du Gange au Bangladesh est un excellent exemple d’écosystèmes stabilisés par leur biodiversité, qui sont à même de protéger des populations vulnérables contre les cyclones, tempêtes tropicales ou fortes marées qui détruisent les digues et salinisent les sols. Ce projet bénéficie d’un soutien des autorités locales et inclut aussi la formation des communautés concernées afin de diversifier leurs revenus et moyens de subsistance. Les témoignages des bénéficiaires sur le terrain (à lire ici) illustrent bien la nécessité de ce type de projet pour plus de prospérité et de résilience face aux aléas climatiques.

Au Bangladesh, le coût de la plantation s’élève à 1 € par mètre carré de mangrove replantée incluant une protection contre la destruction causée par les chèvres. Les deux premières phases de plantation sur 100 hectares sont financées par le fond climat du gouvernement luxembourgeois. A vous d’étendre l’envergure de cette reforestation via la campagne de la Journée Nationale de l’Arbre de la Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur.

For biodiversity and ecosystem services: plant trees!

On the occasion of the National Tree Day in Luxembourg, under the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment and with the participation of the heir Grand-Duke Guillaume, the Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur (naturemwelt.lu) invites everyone to plant trees or to finance the planting of trees in Luxembourg or in a Southern country. This year, the international project chosen is the mangrove trees plantation project led by Friendship in Bangladesh.

The mangrove reforestation project in the mudflats of the Ganges delta in Bangladesh is an excellent example of ecosystems stabilised by their biodiversity, which are able to protect vulnerable populations against cyclones, tropical storms or high tides that destroy dykes and saline the soil. This project benefits from the support of local authorities and also includes training for the communities concerned in order to diversify their income and livelihoods. The testimonies of beneficiaries in the field (read here) illustrate the need for this type of project for greater prosperity and resilience against climatic hazards.

In Bangladesh, the cost of planting is €1 per square metre of mangrove replanted, including protection against destruction caused by goats. The first two phases of planting on 100 hectares are financed by the Luxembourg government’s climate fund. It is up to you to extend the scope of this reforestation via the National Tree Day campaign of the Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur.
