Lancée à l’automne 2019, l’aventure des Pop-Up Store Friendship Colours of the Chars, se poursuit avec l’ouverture de notre tout nouvel espace, 10 rue Aldringen, au sein du nouveau complexe du Royal Hamilius. Cette cinquième adresse dans le cœur de ville de Luxembourg est l’occasion de nous réinventer encore une fois dans ce nouvel écrin aux larges baies vitrées et de mettre en valeur les couleurs et le savoir-faire du Bangladesh.
Comme les communautés servies par Friendship, souvent forcées à déménager en raison d’aléas climatiques, nous sommes « nomades ». Chaque lieu mis à disposition de façon temporaire pour soutenir notre activité est l’occasion de s’adresser à un nouveau public et de retrouver nos client·e·s fidèles. Mais cette cinquième adresse, c’est aussi l’occasion de regarder le chemin parcouru depuis ces quatre dernières années, et les magnifiques rencontres qui ont eu lieu autour des produits, de l’artisanat du Bangladesh et de l’histoire de nos tisserandes.
La première collection reposait principalement sur nos magnifiques foulards, en soie, en coton ou soie & coton, quelques housses de coussins, nos premiers colliers, et nos répliques de bateaux anciens. Au fur et à mesure, la collection s’est étoffée: d’abord avec du linge de maison, nappes, sets de tables, plaid, tapis de jute et puis avec de nouveaux accessoires, beauty bags, beach bags, porte-clés, bijoux. Depuis l’été 2022, la collection de vêtements remporte un vrai succès auprès de notre clientèle, notamment les robes et tuniques fabriquées à partir de saris recyclés.
Au printemps 2023, Friendship Colours se prépare à franchir une nouvelle étape en proposant la magnifique collection de vêtements « slow fashion » présentés lors du défilé « A night of tradition » à l’occasion des 20 ans de Friendship.
Toute cette créativité témoigne de l’impact de notre activité à Luxembourg et au Bangladesh. Le succès de cette activité commerciale nous a permis de former plus de femmes dans nos ateliers de tissage, et leur a permis de produire plus de choses et de développer de nouvelles compétences. Les nombreux articles brodés mains de cette collection sont un témoignage de ces nouveaux acquis. Avec chaque article, c’est un peu de leur histoire que partagent ces femmes des communautés vulnérables du Nord du Bangladesh.
Au-delà des produits, il y a les rencontres et notamment celles avec les nombreuses volontaires aujourd’hui engagées avec enthousiasme dans notre Pop-Up Store aux côtés de Feten, notre Shop Manager. Plus de 525 jours de volontariat prestés en 2022 ! C’est à elles que l’on doit nos magnifiques vitrines colorées, et l’aménagement de notre nouvel espace. Plusieurs de ces volontaires ont eu la possibilité d’aller au Bangladesh rencontrer les femmes dans nos ateliers de tissage : des moments chargés d’émotion et une motivation renforcée.
Aucun doute que cette nouvelle étape au Royal Hamilius sera l’occasion d’écrire une nouvelle page de l’aventure de Friendship Colours of the Chars Luxembourg SARL, où nous serons heureux de vous accueillir nombreux au long de cette année 2023 !

The new Pop-Up Store of Friendship Colours of the Chars is open in Royal Hamilius.
Launched in the fall of 2019, the Friendship Colours of the Chars Pop-up Store adventure continues with the opening of a brand-new shop at 10 rue Aldringen in the Royal Hamilius complex. This fifth address in the heart of the city of Luxembourg provides us with the opportunity of a fresh start in a new setting. A space with large windows to showcase Bangladesh’s beautiful colours and know-how.
Like communities served by Friendship, who are often forced to move due to climate hazards, we too are “nomads”. Each place made available on a temporary basis to support our activity is an opportunity to reach out to a new audience and to also serve our loyal customers. This fifth address also gives us the chance to look back at the path traveled over the past four years, and to acknowledge all the wonderful encounters made through the products, the Bangladeshi handicraft, and the stories of our weavers.
The first collection consisted mainly of our beautiful scarves in silk, cotton or cotton & silk, a few cushion covers, the first necklaces, and boat replicas. Gradually the collection grew, first with tablecloths, placemats, bed covers, jute mats and then with new accessories such as beauty bags, beach bags, key rings, and jewelry. Since the summer of 2022, the garment collection has been a great success among our customers, particularly dresses and tunics made from upcycled saris.
In the spring of 2023, Friendship Colours is preparing to take a new step by offering a magnificent “slow fashion” collection presented during the “A Night of Tradition” fashion show on Friendship’s 20th anniversary.
All this creativity shows the impact of our projects in Luxembourg and Bangladesh. The success of this commercial activity has enabled us to train more women in our weaving centers and has allowed them to evolve and develop more skills. The many hand-embroidered items in the new collection are proof of these achievements. Each item shares a bit of the many stories of the women in the vulnerable communities in northern Bangladesh.
Looking beyond the products, there are numerous encounters and in particular those with the many volunteers who, alongside our Shop Manager Feten, are very enthusiastic and very engaged in our Pop-up Store. We boast more than 525 days of volunteering work in 2022. It is to this team that we owe our splendid setup and decoration of the shop and the windows. Many of our volunteers had the opportunity to travel to Bangladesh to meet the women in our weaving centers – moments filled with emotion and increased motivation.
This new era at Royal Hamilius will most certainly be a great addition to the adventure of Friendship Colours of the Chars. We look forward to welcoming you all to the new Pop-Up Store throughout 2023.
