Dear Friends of Friendship,
Chers amis, chères amies (traduction ci-dessous),
At the outset of this year 2021, I am sharing with you New Year’s greetings from Runa Khan, Founder and Executive Director of Friendship, and take this opportunity, very briefly and by no means comprehensively, to outline some perspectives for the coming year.
2021, which is also the 20th year of Friendship’s operations, is expected to be the year during which…
- … the 5 additional Friendship hospital ships will enter service in various regions of Bangladesh, significantly expanding the geographic scope of our programs;
- … Friendship Luxembourg will be granted the status of an International NGO by the authorities of Bangladesh, thus making certain additional means of intervention available to us;
- … the construction and equipment of a new Friendship Colours of the Chars textile production center will be completed on the banks of the Brahmaputra, and the marketing of the production developed further in Luxembourg and in Europe;
- … two additional Static Clinics will become operational in the coastal region, in Chalna and Kutubdia;
- … Mushti, Friendship’s microfinance entity, will, for the first time, be able to access bank refinancing to enhance its support to the deployment of economic activities;
- … Friendship will achieve carbon neutrality as an organisation, become increasingly involved as a voice from the field in forums whose objective is to advance adaptation solutions to climate change, and will further increase the scale of its mangrove reforestation;
- … our Inclusive Citizenship program will be the subject of an independent external evaluation commissioned by Friendship Luxembourg with the support of Luxembourg Cooperation, and will see its geographical coverage extended by the inclusion of five additional Chars;
- … additional primary and secondary school classes will be opened in the context of our Education program and many of the recommendations of the external evaluation carried out in 2020 by an institute of Dhaka University will be implemented;
- … the Friendship Code of Ethics and values-based education model will be shared well beyond Friendship schools to include government schools and others;
- … we hope that major cyclones and excessive floods will spare Bangladesh and that the health crisis will recede; and failing that, our teams will continue to face disasters as they strike, as they did in 2020!

A l’aube de cette année 2021, je partage avec vous les voeux de Runa Khan, Fondatrice et Directrice Executive de Friendship, en profitant de l’occasion pour, très succinctement et dans une liste un peu comme à la Prévert et de façon nullement exhaustive, dessiner quelques perspective pour l’année qui vient de commencer.
2021, qui est aussi la 20ème année d’opérations de Friendship, voudra bien être l’année pendant laquelle…
- … les 5 bateaux hôpitaux additionnels de Friendship entreront en service dans diverses régions du Bangladesh, étendant ainsi sensiblement le champ géographique de nos programmes ;
- … Friendship Luxembourg se verra accorder le statut d’ONG Internationale par les autorités du Bangladesh, mettant ainsi à notre portée certaines moyens d’intervention additionnels ;
- … la construction et l’équipement d’un nouveau centre de production textile Friendship Colours of the Chars pourront être achevés sur les rives du Brahmapoutre, et la commercialisation de la production encore intensifiée au Luxembourg et en Europe ;
- … deux Static Clinics (dispensaires) additionnelles pourront entrer en fonctionnement dans la région côtière, à Chalna et à Kutubdia ;
- … Mushti, l’entité de microfinance de Friendship pourra, pour la première fois, accéder à un refinancement bancaire de ses opérations d’appui aux activités économiques ;
- … Friendship réalisera pour elle-même la neutralité carbone, s’impliquera de plus en plus, en tant que Voix du terrain, dans les fora faisant avancer les solutions d’adaptation au changement climatique et augmentera encore les surfaces de ses plantations de mangroves ;
- … notre programme de Citoyenneté Inclusive fera l’objet d’une évaluation externe indépendante commandée par Friendship Luxembourg avec l’appui de la Coopération luxembourgeoise et verra son rayon géographique élargi par l’inclusion de cinq Chars supplémentaires ;
- … de nouvelles classes d’école primaire et secondaire viendront s’ajouter au programme d’Education et bon nombre des recommandations de l’évaluation externe réalisée en 2020 par un institut de l’Université de Dhaka seront mises en œuvre ;
- … le Code d’Ethique de Friendship et son modèle d’éducation fondé sur les valeurs sera partagé bien au-delà des écoles Friendship avec des écoles gouvernementales et d’autres encore ;
- … nos espérons que les cyclones et inondations excessives épargneront le Bangladesh et la crise sanitaire reculera; et à défaut nos équipes continueront d’y faire face comme elles l’ont fait en 2020 !
- …vous continuerez à nous prodiguer votre soutien comme vous l’avez fait en 2020, Inchallah !
