Friendship at COP29

Friendship is participating at COP29 from November 11 to 22, 2024 to speak about locally-led, community-based adaptation and advocate for scaling up replicable solutions.

Friendship is participating in the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP29) for the fourth consecutive year, and fifth time overall. This year, we also attended the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP16) in Cali, Colombia. The 29th edition of the UNFCCC’s conference will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to November 22, 2024.

DescriptionThe Climate Law & Governance Day (CLGD 2024) aims to inspire and promote legal and institutional reforms to meet our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, enhancing our collective ambition for future climate finance and the upcoming NDC rounds.
Within the CLGD, Friendship’s session will explore how we can improve legal support for climate migrants who currently lack entitlements, which strategies can be implemented to establish legal protections and comprehensive support systems, from early warning mechanisms to intensive care and what challenges and best practices exist for scaling up climate adaptation, mitigation, and resilience efforts.

The COPs for the three Rio Conventions are pivotal in addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. The COPs are, CBD COP16 which Friendship attended this year, UNFCCC COP29 which this is, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16).

DescriptionThe health of the climate is inherently linked to the health of animals and humans. Climate change effects directly affect the quality of life and livelihoods across the planet, and more so in developing countries like Bangladesh where communities lack the infrastructure and access to services that help them cope, or give them a buffer against immediate ramifications. This session will discuss specifically how health is impacted by climate change in Bangladesh.
