Le 9 avril, FRIENDSHIP a officiellement inauguré 5 bateaux-hôpitaux additionnels sillonnant des régions du Bangladesh très pauvrement desservies en soins de santé, portant ainsi la flotte d’hôpitaux itinérants à 7 ! Ces 5 nouveaux bateaux ont été financés par la Banque Islamique de Développement. Le fait que le choix de celle-ci se soit porté sur le système de soins de santé mobile de Friendship constitue une belle consécration de celui-ci. Nous escomptons qu’en 2025, quelque 1,4 million de personnes bénéficieront ainsi de services de santé grâce à notre système à trois « niveaux »: bateaux-hôpitaux, cliniques paramédicales itinérantes, agentes communautaires de santé.
Depuis maintenant bientôt vingt ans, Friendship Luxembourg a très substantiellement contribué à faire de FRIENDSHIP un acteur particulièrement respecté du l’écosystème du développement et de l’aide humanitaire au Bangladesh. Il n’est que justice de dire que les citoyens de notre pays et la Coopération luxembourgeoise, qui nous ont si fidèlement soutenu, peuvent en être fiers !
Au regard d’une croissance continue de nos activités et de l’équipe qui les met en œuvre, le moment est venu de renforcer notre structure en la dotant d’une direction appelée à œuvrer à de nouvelles perspectives tout en préservant ce qui a pu être construit.
Je suis convaincu qu’avec Olivier Pirot, notre équipe – conseil d’administration, staff et bénévoles confondus – s’enrichit de la bonne personne au bon moment. Avec son expérience autant dans le secteur privé que dans celui des droits fondamentaux auprès de Handicap International, Médecins Sans Frontières et Amnesty International, Olivier apporte à Friendship une expérience inégalée, tant de terrain que de gestion d’équipe.
Pour ma part, après près de 20 années passées à m’impliquer au jour le jour dans la gestion des affaires courantes de Friendship Luxembourg, je consacrerai dorénavant mon expérience à concourir, bien-sûr, à la définition de nos orientations stratégiques et aux prises de décision au sein du conseil d’administration, mais aussi, et surtout, à cultiver les rapports avec, d’une part, notre communauté d’amis-donateurs, privés et publics, qui ont permis à Friendship de se construire au Luxembourg, et, d’autre part, nos équipes et bénéficiaires au Bangladesh qui sont à la source de mon engagement !
Je le ferai avec un engagement intact, et continuerai à apporter tout mon soutien à Olivier et son équipe, quand et où ils en auront besoin.

Inauguration of 5 additional Friendship hospital ships in Bangladesh – Friendship Luxembourg appoints Olivier Pirot as its General Manager.
On 9 April, FRIENDSHIP officially inaugurated 5 additional hospital ships to travel through regions of Bangladesh with very poor healthcare services, bringing its fleet of floating hospitals to 7, thanks to funding from the Islamic Development Bank! The fact that the latter chose the Friendship mobile healthcare system is a great recognition of its innovative features. We expect that by 2025, some 1.4 million persons will receive healthcare services thanks to our three-tier system of hospital ships, mobile paramedical clinics and community health workers.
For almost twenty years now, Friendship Luxembourg has contributed significantly to making FRIENDSHIP a particularly respected player in the development and humanitarian aid ecosystem in Bangladesh. It is fair to say that the citizens of our country and the Luxembourg Development Cooperation, who have supported us so faithfully, can be proud of this!
In view of the continuous growth of our activities and the team that carries them out, the time has come to strengthen our structure by providing it with a management team that will work towards new perspectives while preserving what has been achieved.
I am convinced that with Olivier Pirot, our team – board of directors, staff and volunteers alike – is enriched by the right person at the right time. With his experience in both the private sector and in the field of basic rights with Handicap International, Médecins Sans Frontières and Amnesty International, Olivier brings to Friendship unrivalled experience, both in the field and in team management.
For my part, after nearly 20 years of involvement in the management of the day-to-day business of Friendship Luxembourg, I will now apply my experience to contributing, of course, to defining our strategic orientations and to decision-making at board level, but also, above all, to cultivating relationships with, on the one hand, our community of private and public donor-friends, who have enabled Friendship to establish itself in Luxembourg, and, on the other hand, our teams and beneficiaries in Bangladesh who are at the source of my commitment!
I will do so with undiminished commitment and will continue to give my full support to Olivier and his team, whenever and wherever they need it.
