C’est la rentrée – Back to work

Chères amies, chers amis,

Dear Friends of Friendship (translation below)

Dear Friends of Friendship,

It is on a very busy schedule that Friendship starts into the last quarter of the year:

  • In Dhaka, the first Friendship retail shop has just opened its doors to ensure always increasing marketing opportunities for the “Friendship-Colours of the Chars” products, which are at the opposite end of the “fast fashion” trend by ensuring a dignified work for an ever-increasing number of weavers, embroiderers and tailors
  • From Tuesday 24 September to Monday 30 September, Friendship Luxembourg runs a pop-up store in the new Auchan Shopping Center in Cloche d’Or with Friendship-Colours of the Chars products and during the following week, we will open a pop-up shop at 3, Côte d’Eich (former flower shop Eden) in the centre of the City of Luxembourg.
  • On Friday 27 September, at 6.30 pm, Runa Khan will be a speaker at the Cercle Cité in Luxembourg on the topic “Climate Challenges: The voices still to be heard” as part of the “Urgence Climatique – Planète Nanuk” programme coordinated by the French Institute of Luxembourg. You are cordially invited to come and listen to her. On the same day, under the same programme, the exhibition of photographs “Blanc Cassé” by Eilo Elvinger will open on the fences of the Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg, documenting the impact of global climate change in the Arctic
  • From 20 to 27 September, it is also the “Week for Future” of global and intergenerational mobilization, led by young people, in favour of the climate. In Luxembourg too, youths and students are mobilizing. Joined by other organisations, they will march in the city on Friday 27 September from 3pm to demand concrete action to protect the planet and for more climate justice.
  • In November, a photo exhibition on the situation of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh is being prepared in collaboration with Galerie Clairefontaine and on Tuesday, 12 November, we are organizing an evening event on the same theme, as the importance and scale of Friendship’s work in the camps continues to grow in the context of a crises to which one sees no end and which turns out always more complicated and conflictual.
  • In Bangladesh, after the exceptional floods of the month of July, the emergency relief interventions for which we received significant support have been successfully concluded while rehabilitation operations are still under way. In parallel and somewhat as if this was business as usual, five additional Friendship hospital ships will go into operation over the next six months, providing access to our health services for more than one million additional people in different areas of Bangladesh.

As always, all this would not be possible without the commitment of all those who stay on our side and provide us support. We thus look forward to welcoming many of you at the events of the coming days and weeks and share with you what it is that, at the end of the day, drives us: to bring opportunity, dignity and hope to some of the populations most marginalised and most exposed to the effects of climate change.
